Student tracking benchmarks the grades of every student based on a estimated measure of academic potential

Student tracking works by benchmarking grades for every student against their academic potential. We measure potential based on general cognitive ability and subjective motivation and well-being. Starting with cognitive ability, if a student has great verbal reasoning, we typically expect to see good grades in languages. Similarly, if a student has great numerical ability, we typically expect to see good grades in maths and physics. But we also know students have different levels of interest and motivation, so we also add  a subject motivation measure for each subject by simply asking students about their favourite subjects. General well-being can also influence academic performance so we ask students a number of questions on general day-to-day well-being. You can find a sample example of how we bring this together for students here.
